About Sue
Who we are.
What is Sue.com?
Sue helps individuals and small businesses recover what they are owed. You give us the facts of your dispute in a five-minute intake, a licensed attorney on our team drafts your demand letter from scratch, and we mail it certified and track it through to a response — all for a flat $129. No retainer, no hourly billing, no DIY templates.
Is Sue.com a law firm?
Sue isn't a traditional law firm and we won't represent you in court — but you're not on your own either. Licensed attorneys on our team draft your demand letter from scratch, tailored to your state's laws and the specifics of your dispute, then we mail it certified and walk every case end-to-end until you get paid or you're ready to file in small claims. You get the legal weight of a real attorney's letter at a flat $129 instead of a $1,500 retainer.
When was Sue.com founded?
Sue was founded in 2021 with a simple belief: access to justice should not be gated behind four-figure retainers. Since launch, our customers have recovered more than $10 million across thousands of cases.
Who uses Sue.com?
Freelancers and consultants chasing unpaid invoices. Landlords recovering damages. Tenants reclaiming security deposits. Homeowners dealing with contractors. Small business owners handling disputes they would rather not hire a lawyer for. Anyone owed between $500 and $25,000 is the core use case.
Products
What we do.
What products do you offer?
Two core products. A Demand Letter ($129) — drafted from scratch by a licensed attorney in your state, printed on formal dispute-resolution letterhead, delivered via USPS Certified Mail. And a Small Claims Prep packet ($249) — county-specific court forms, filing guide, evidence checklist, and hearing-day brief, for when the letter is not enough.
How is this different from using ChatGPT or another AI to write a demand letter?
AI doesn't know your state's notice statutes, doesn't know which counties require certified mail before you can file, and confidently makes up case citations that don't exist. We've seen letters quoting fake statutes and wrong damages multipliers — defendants and their lawyers spot it instantly and your demand stops being credible. You only get one shot at a strong demand letter; if it lands wrong, the other side digs in and your leverage is gone. Every Sue letter is hand-drafted by a licensed attorney in your state, on real dispute-resolution letterhead, with the actual statutes and facts that apply to your case.
How effective is a demand letter?
Across our full dataset, 85% of recipients pay at least a partial settlement within 30 days of delivery. A certified letter drafted by a licensed attorney signals that court is the next step — and most parties would rather write a check than show up in front of a judge.
What is small claims court?
Small claims is a streamlined state court designed for disputes under a dollar limit (typically $2,500 to $25,000). You do not need an attorney, fees are modest, and most hearings resolve in one session. Our prep packet gives you the forms, evidence structure, and hearing-day brief most filers walk in without.
Can I use Sue if I am outside the U.S.?
Our products only cover disputes within the United States right now. If you are outside the U.S. but chasing a U.S. debtor, we can still help — contact our team and we will confirm fit during intake.
The process
How it works.
How long does the process take?
Intake takes four to ten minutes. For a demand letter, we draft, attorney-review, and mail within one business day of intake. USPS Certified Mail delivers in 2–4 business days. For a small claims packet, your assembled packet is ready within 24 hours of intake completion.
Is every letter reviewed by an attorney?
Yes. Every single letter is reviewed by an attorney licensed in the relevant state before it is printed and mailed. We do not send machine-generated letters without human legal review.
What if the other party ignores the letter?
You can upgrade to our Small Claims Prep package for the difference ($120). Every piece of evidence, case fact, and contact detail carries over automatically. Most customers who upgrade file within two weeks of the letter going unanswered.
Can I track my case?
Yes. Every customer gets a real-time case dashboard with USPS Certified Mail tracking, delivery confirmation, response deadline management, and (for small claims) court filing status. You are never left wondering what is happening.
Pricing
What it costs.
How much does Sue.com cost?
A Demand Letter is $129. Small Claims Prep is $249. Both are one-time payments with no subscription and no retainer. Court filing fees paid to the clerk are separate and vary by county — typically $30 to $75.
Do you offer refunds?
Yes. We offer a 24-hour satisfaction guarantee: if you are unhappy with your document for any reason before it is mailed or filed, contact us within 24 hours for a full refund. Because outcomes depend on the other party, we cannot guarantee payment.
Are there any hidden fees?
No. The price you see includes attorney review, printing, USPS Certified Mail with Return Receipt, your case dashboard, and a 7-year PDF archive. Court filing fees (for small claims) are paid to the clerk and clearly disclosed during intake.
Legal & privacy
The fine print.
Are your documents legally valid in my state?
Yes. Every letter and form is reviewed by attorneys licensed in the state relevant to your case. Small claims procedures vary by county, and our prep packets include the specific forms and rules that apply to your exact jurisdiction.
Can I use your documents as evidence in court?
Absolutely. The Certified Mail tracking, Return Receipt, and dated PDF archive you get with every letter are admissible and commonly cited in small claims proceedings. Your hearing-day brief tells you exactly how to present them.
Will using Sue affect my credit, taxes, or anything else?
No. Sending a demand letter or filing a small claims case has no direct effect on your credit. A tax deduction may apply if the debt is written off as uncollectable — speak to your accountant about specifics.
How do you protect my information?
We encrypt your data in transit and at rest, never sell it, and only share case details with the attorney reviewing your letter. Our full privacy practices are in our Privacy Policy, and you can request deletion of your account data at any time.
